Camps and Excursions are an important part of productive learning.  Learning experiences beyond the confines of the classroom situation allow for exposure to different environments, people or expertise and acknowledge different sources of information. The opportunity to learn beyond the confines of the classroom allows the children to develop responsible behaviour, their independence and interdependence along with gaining greater insight into the social interactions of their peers.

At St. Joseph’s School, we believe that camps and excursions provide a balance between formal learning and life experiences and serve to promote the children’s total development.  These activities focus on experience in the wider community and foster mutual respect and co-operation.

Camps
Students in Years 4 – 6 participate in an annual camp.  Years 4 and 5 camps focus on the importance of working as a team, children are challenged to step outside of their comfort zone as they participate in a variety of outdoor activities.

Year Six students participate in the Tangalooma Education Camp where they explore the geographical, environmental, ecological, historical and marine sciences experiences available on Moreton Island, while gaining independence in a fun, outdoor learning environment.
