St Joseph’s boasts a thriving Music program throughout the school. All children from Prep to Year 6 participate in a weekly Music lesson and also have the opportunity to participate in the Choral program from years 2-6 and the Band program from years 3-6.
The classroom music Program at St Joseph’s is based on the Music Strand of the Australian Arts Curriculum. The aim of the music program is to develop the creativity which is present in varying degrees in all children. Learning is activity based and through a variety of activities the children are taught the basic skills of music – beat, rhythm, pitch, singing, playing, movement, listening, musical literacy and creating. There is a focus on students making music and developing the ability to think and express themselves in sound. Children from Prep- 6 learn to play a variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments. In years 4-6 technology is integrated into Music lessons as students are provided with the opportunity to create music using their iPads.
